FIDO Market Manners Program

 

The Market Manners Program was created to promote responsible dog ownership at the Dubuque Farmers Market and beyond. The program was made possible through a grant from Sustainable Dubuque.

 

In order to keep the privilege of bringing dogs to Market, owners and dogs are asked to please follow these basic guidelines:

 

Market Manners for Dogs
 

  1. Walk relaxed, on a loose leash through a crowd

  2. Be friendly and approachable to all types of dogs and people

  3. Exhibit self control when greeting dogs and people

  4. Avoid jumping up, sniffing, licking or marking on any products
    or vendor tables

  5. Not bark excessively

 

Market Manners for Owners

 

  1. Use good judgment when deciding to bring a dog to market

  2. Toilet the dog before arriving to market

  3. Keep dogs under control on a short, non-retractable leash

  4. Be prepared to clean up any messes immediately

  5. Never leave a pet in a car unattended 

  6. Provide water for dogs and keep them cool

 

 

 

 

Get Market Manners Certified! 

 

Market Manners-Certified Dogs will receive a special blue bandana, which can be worn all season long to show vendors and shoppers you and your dog know your farmers' market manners.

 

Dogs caught wearing their bandanas may also get a prize!

 

 

The Market Manners Test:
 

  1. Loose Leash Walking - Dog must walk calmly along sidewalk and be under control of its owner

  2. Leave It - Dogs will be tempted with treats or produce at eye level and must leave them alone

  3. Sit and Stay - Dog must obey owner when asked to sit and stay

  4. Greetings - Dog must show self control when visiting vendor tables and greeting new people

    Disqualifiers: Marking (urinating), jumping up on people or tables, growling, barking, snapping or lunging at other dogs.
